Currently Reading -- I'm currently rereading Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. Some of the students in my Speculative Technology in Science Fiction summer class are doing their final project on it. I want to finish both this series, and the Elena Ferrante Sicily series this summer.

Describe the last scene you read in as few words as possible. No character names or title. -- Exploration of Mars, searching for water.

First book that had a major influence on you -- read to me, Alice in Wonderland gave me a sense of the absurd and of language play. And that little girls can be heroes. Read myself, the first adult books I chose on my own were the Sherlock Holmes books -- although I'm not in Sherlock fandom, I developed a lifelong love for the Victorian aesthetic -- and I blame my early love for Holmes for my doing Victorian lit in grad school.

Quick, you're in desperate need of a fake name. What character name do you think of first? -- Lydia Gwilt.

Favorite series and why. China Mieville's Bas-Lag books.

Public library or personal library? Personal. I never know when I'm going to have time, so library books get awkward.

What is the most important part of a book, in your opinion? The story.

Why are you reading the book you're currently reading? See #1.

If you were to publish a book what (besides your real name) would you use for your author name? Catherine Hahn (mother's maiden name)

Do you listen to music when you read? No. Either the music distracts me, or I block it out and then why did I bother.

What book fandom do you affiliate yourself with the most? Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. or maybe Lord Peter Wimsey.

OK, that's enough for now. The rest soon.

Tell one book story or memory (what you were wearing when you were reading something, someone saw you cry in public, you threw a book across the room and broke a window, etc.)
What character would be your best friend in real life?
 Favorite item of book merch
 Post a shelfie.
 Rant about anything book related
What do you think about movie/tv adaptations?
 Favorite booktuber(s)
Book that you call your child.
A character you like but you really, really shouldn't.
 Do you loan your books?
A movie or tv show you wish would have been a book
Did your family or friends influence you to read when you were younger?
First book(s) you remember being obsessed with
A book that you think about and you cringe because of how terrible it was
Do you read from recommendations or whatever book catches your eye?
How/where do you purchase your books?
An ending you wish you could change
 Favorite female protagonist.
 One book everyone should read
Do you day dream about your favorite books? If so, share one fantasy you have about them.
 OTP or NoTP?
Cute and fluffy or dramatic and deadly?
 Scariest book you ever read
What do you think of Ebooks
 Unpopular opinions
A book you are scared is not going to be all you hoped it would be
What qualities do you find annoying in a character?
 Favorite villain
Has there ever been a book you wish you could un-read?

I'm the same with music. If the music has words, my brain focuses on that and starts to sing along. If it is just music, it is usually from a movie and my brain starts to try to identify which movie it is from etc. LOL.

Same with TV. My aunt used to study with her TV on but I could never do that! I can barely browse email when there are other things going on. Maybe I'm just easily distracted LOL

Alice In Wonderland was that to me as well. :) My Mum told me only a recenty that she really dislke the book, but she read it to me over and over anyway because she saw how important it was to me.

I love the Mars books, even though they are rather too long.
