I really enjoyed the three Naomi Novik books -- and I think one of the reasons I've been liking them is that they're not just "Hey, Napoleonic War, with DRAGONS!!" yet the status quo, regardless, is maintained. Novik instead seems to be approaching these as an alternate history with a "what if" structure, which is far more exciting. Termeraire as radical reformer is an interesting concept, most definitely; and I found the tactical innovations his nemesis brought to Napoleon's armies both fascinating and terrifying.
So, yes, loads of fun and a quick read for all three.
I do think the cliffhanger at the end of Black Powder War a little evil, considering there was absolutely no wait at all for the first three books. :)
I've not watched the Tennant Who eps, except for Christmas Invasion. I missed Eccleston more than I thought I would. I need to dl at some point, though I assume that Sci Fi Channel will strike a deal for them at some point. What did you think of the Tenth Doctor first series?
