Oct. 8th, 2003 10:55 pmLast night went to Neal Stephenson's signing -- a pity that he didn't do a reading (his theory, that we could read faster than he could, was so of a piece with his whole techno-nerd persona . . . ), but the Q&A was interesting. Some of the questioners had such complex statements/queries that I felt like I was hearing a piece of academic writing; he responded sensibly and with good humor. Even better was seeing
bethynyc again, and meeting
starroses and
linaeryes. My Onion writer friend was there and one of his buddies -- they were in the odd position of having done a signing on the same stage themselves the night before, and now being audience members.
Angel continues to delight this season -- it's funny, it's clever, and I care again, which I really hadn't for several seasons. (There was a point when I was watching for Lorne . . . ) So far I, at least, am liking the way they're incorporating Spike (and Harmony!). David Boreanaz must have been feeling competitive, because he had his shirt off for the first time in years -- he was in good enough shape to have his shirt off for the first time in years . . .
Nearly everyone on my friends' list has commented on the California recall. The most useful, I thought, were
tv_elf for reminding us that many many Californians voted otherwise, and
jorit for bringing home that it's not a laughing matter.
