Power back last night; we rejoiced but then collapsed with exhaustion. M. finally made it to Brooklyn on Friday and Prospect Park is devastated -- lots of big old trees down and much work to come getting things functional again. I've been taking buses uptown in quest of hot showers, fresh food, and power for the laptops and the phones. We're still waiting for subway service, neighborhood shops to reopen and restock, and hot water, but the other thing we got back last night was tv and a chance to really see the images of the places that were hardest hit. That's not us -- a week of candlelight and emptying out the freezer is nothing compared to what a lot of people are going through.
