Apr. 9th, 2004 02:08 pmLovely visit with
silme and
luis_mw yesterday; lunched with them and
jadegirl; hit bookshops and behaved myself, despite the intense temptation at Books of Wonder to indulge in a few more Alice editions (I'm thinking my first academic book may be on Alice, rather than my fairly stale-to-me dissertation); introduced them to the new cat and the new apartment layout; and had an Italian dinner (one of the sort to restore M.'s faith in the cuisine, despite Evil Chain Restaurant) with much laughter and good conversation, featuring all of the above, plus
holzman,
bethynyc, her C., and my M. (Was also amused to see we were all couples. I've always been used to social events being mixed singles and couples, but when a friend of Silme's came along on her own to restore the proper order of things, M. and I were already getting ready to hail a cab, since he'd got to work today.)
silme and I realized just exactly how long we've known each other; it's a veeerry long time.
Good Friday was rather sad today; the collapse at St. P's is showing its toll rather seriously -- besides for the rector, the person assisting him, and the organist, there was me and two other people, one of whom is a mentally disabled woman who wandered off midway according to her inner promptings. Admittedly, one doesn't usually leave Good Friday observances all chipper, but I left this one depressed for all the wrong reasons.
Though we sang "Vexilla Regis prodeunt", which cheered my Dante geek heart, since it's the hymn that's parodied in the lowest circle of the Inferno. It was listed as a 12th century tune, so even the right music.
