Bob Dylan doing a Victoria's Secret commercial and the Wayans Brothers are playing the Hilton Sisters in an upcoming movie. The world indeed must be coming to an end.
We saw Hellboy last night, and it was everything a comic book movie could be -- so much fun, and it felt fresh, not yet another "origins" type story. Okay, everything in it was pretty much derivative, but the way it was done, both of us just enjoyed the, er, hell out of it. And this has got to be the only time in his career David Hyde Pierce will ever play an action hero (or voice one, anyway).
Poor Ron Perlman only ever seems to get the girl when he's in deep monster makeup, however.
Afterwards we tried to go to Chelsea Common for dinner but it was closed for a private party, so I got to inveigle M. to Pepe Giallo up the block, one of my favorites but not his. If only he didn't feel the need to do an ongoing critique of everyplace we eat. But I don't care. I loved it.
The press is all full of the new "gastropub" that's opened in NYC -- so irritating because M. worked at one in England and that's been his concept all along -- by the time we're ready to open it'll be old hat. But his'll be better -- and in whatever unsuspecting college town we land in.
Great meeting with my dissertation advisor, too. Ready to rock on Trollope . . .

Date: 2004-04-16 10:04 am (UTC)Oddly, the commerical is really sellin' the old underwear, the VS company is very happy with the results of the pairing. I assume elderly men are buying young honies underwear with hope in their cholesterole-clogged hearts.
