very quick update . . . which somehow turns out to be all about tv, except to note that the super is redoing our bathroom, finally, which means all sorts of disruption and morning baths rather than showers so we don't wreck the new plaster or sealant before it's fully dry. Still, soon it'll be over. We are both exhausted types today; my attention wandered during *24* which might have had something to do with it being rather routine, though they redeemed themselves with a last minute redirection.

New *Jonathan Creek* on BBCA -- Julia Sawalha has taken over as the female lead, and though I like her generally I'm not certain she'll ever replace the individual and not picture pretty Maddy. They're actually doing her (JS) up "prettier" (better makeup and straightened hair apparently makes her prettier) than in most things I've seen her in. But the weird intertextuality is that she's married to a tv producer played by Adrian Edmundson.

Adrian Edmundson is married to Jennifer Saunders in real life. Julia Sawalha's best-known role to most Americans at least is as Jennifer Saunders' daughter on AbFab. My brain hurts.

How odd! Can I assume it's one of those "young chick/old fart" relationships? Or is it Saunders who is the cradle-robber? Because if he's his wife's age, he's old enough to be her old Dad. Tell me at least Sawalha's not actually playing Maddy, but some other woman? I think, in England, Sawalha actually considered really pretty, when she played Dr. Who's assistant in that little special, Rowan Atkinson's Doctor gushed about her being The Most Perfect Woman Ever. "Beauty and brains," I believe he said. Americans seem to have a very different idea of what constitutes beauty.

Didya know Dawn French is married to "CHEF!"?

Edmundson is definitely the same age as Jennifer Saunders -- have you ever seen *The Young Ones*? Sawalha's interesting in that she can really project anything from 20s right up to 40 without much strain, though. His character on Jonathan Creek is a tv producer and she is the host of a true crime type show. In the movie that first introduced her character she was a theatrical agent, but I guess when they decided to make it a series they thought this would have more possibilities. They sent Maddy to the US on a book tour and apparently she never returned . . .

Yes I did. (Know that Dawn French and Lenny Henry were Mr. and Mrs.) I love how the British comedians marry each other instead of bimbettes and boytoys. :-)

Julia Sawalha is 35. Jennifer Saunders is 45.

I'm still mad Mutant Enemy wouldn't accomodate Tony Head so he could continue in the role he started on this show.

Oh yeah, I didn't think Sawalha was really young enough to be Saunders' daughter; it's just one of those weird "there are only twelve actors in Britain so they all end up in every possible permutation" moments.

And may I add that I don't appreciate all those "aging" jokes coming from a woman who's only three years older than I am. ;-) Edina seems to have experienced a lot more of the sixties than any 45 year old woman should have, though -- I personally was a small child during most of those events. *g*

Now I may be completely wrong here but dredging my regular readings of gossip-mongering-scandal-mags (I loved the episode of SATC when Miranda got her delivery of the fave scandal mag to her new address and everything else stopped while she ingested her latest fix. I can identify!) but I am pretty sure that Julia S and the Jonathon Creek bloke (whose name completely escapes me, black curly hair) were an item for quite a while in Real Life. They have now split up.

Apologies for rambling sentence and non-concrete nature of info. {...disappears back into her burrow...}

Alan Davies. Who look disturbingly like one of my ex-boyfriends, btw. I mean, separated at birth time, same hair and everything.

My husband, otoh, is a cross between Jason Statham and Bruce Willis.

Wonder if the romance lead to the role or the role to the romance. And if they're over if that means Maddy will be back next series . . .
