Excellent M. Employment News!!!!
Sep. 14th, 2004 03:29 pmI should be back to play in a couple of weeks; I'm indexing Marjorie Garber's new book on Shakespeare and it is both massive and with a mega-short turnaround. That on top of teaching means . . . eep. (But I did get 20 pages written of my dissertation chapter before the project came in so I'm feeling very positive about really, truly finishing in the foreseeable etc.) Meanwhile, though, I wanted to share the fabulous news!
M. got a job.
M. got a job doing what he actually wants to be doing, instead of tending bar at a Chain Restaurant, Evil or otherwise.
He's going to be Front of House Manager (or Assistant General Manager) at The Quays, which is a new fine dining restaurant. He'll be in on the ground floor and he really likes the restaurant concept (new American cuisine, lots of organic and local produce) as well as the General Manager he'll be working closely with. Money's okay (better than tending bar at ECR,obviously), job's EXACTLY what he wants.
It's on the waterfront in Hoboken, on the dubiously-named Sinatra Drive, which seems to be all newly-built luxury highrises and a very pretty esplanade (with a view of my ex-gym. Yup, you can see Chelsea Piers from right in front of his restaurant). I went out with him for the initial interview, since he'd never been out there before and I used to go out to Maxwells to see bands fairly often -- which qualifies me at least on long walks down Washington Street very late at night.
We're not too far from the 23rd St. PATH on our end, and the restaurant's not too far from the Hoboken terminal, so it should be okay commutewise. He's going to be working a lot, which is actually quite sad, but at least I'll have lots of time to finish the diss. Most important, he's excited about this and I'm *so* pleased for him.
