. . . so, anybody miss me? Thanks for all the wonderful messages when I posted about M.'s job, btw; I had every intention of writing back but then the next wave hit and I was underwater again, so to speak. Looking forward to catching up with people.

So, school's good, M.'s job is great (I finally got to eat at the restaurant Friday night and it was wonderful -- will be recruiting expeditions to head out there again soon!), and other than that . . . well, I didn't really have time to think or breathe until Friday when it was finally all over, and since then I've been doing the collapsed in a heap thing.

Finally auditioned for that choir; he wants to give me a try for a month and see if my voice blends. My last choir director wasn't really a vocal coach and since my training is fairly minimal, I'm sure I have all kinds of bad habits. So we'll see; if it does work it'll be a real challenge, which is what I think I need.

Next scary thing: I have to write my "job letter" and check out the MLA joblist to see where I'm applying. Good thing M. got settled before my process got started; that way we only have one crazy jobseeker at a time. I actually feel pretty relaxed because I have heard time and time again that people don't usually get things their first year on the market so I'm not going to take it too personally.

Wow; LJ's changed its format again since I last posted.

We did want to go to M's restaurant when we visited Laurie this month, but with the recent turn of events (losing our apartment), I don't think we're gonna be visiting for a while. MUCHLY DISAPPOINTED!

Well, he'd love it if you came but it's not going anywhere.

I was in the middle of everything when you were talking about the house being sold; have you guys inquired into buying or are you looking for another apartment? I remember when I visited you there you were so happy to have found a nice unyuppified working class neighborhood with good housing stock and so convenient -- it seems like you should get to be permanently granfathered into the neighborhood now that everyone has caught up with you.

Thanks!

We had the seminar last night and already I was tossing and turning the in middle of the night angsting over my c.v. This is not going to be fun.

Good to be back.

So what's your fall teaching like? Are you doing Close Reading, and what texts?

I'm so psyched that I got two sections of Close Reading rather than one each of CRCW and Comp; we're doing mostly gothic lit (gee, big surprise there!), and the kids seem to be enjoying it so far. The most exciting text is of course Dracula, but there are some other joys as well: Jekyll & Hyde, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and so on.

The writing has been nigh on appalling, but the discussions are fun, and I have faith that a few conferences and some heavily-commented upon papers will help their papers.

Welcome back! You were terribly missed. We need to catch up in real life. Maybe hit Soba-ya finally?

Missed you too!

Sobaya definitely works -- could do brunch Saturday or dinner Friday or most nights next week. Also you'll have to come out and see M.'s restaurant sometime; maybe we can organize something with linaerys and a few other people?

It's nice to know you are still alive and writing.

When M. was out of work, I kinda found it was taking everything between writing my chapter and giving him all the moral support. Then there were the three weeks when if I wasn't sleeping or teaching, I was on the Shakespeare project. Nice to see life again, on the other side!
