Okay, I officially no longer care that a certain Englishman who lives with me likes the fresh air.

As in, major postnasal drip due to all the fresh air. *bleah* The windows are closed; he can bloody open them at 5am when he gets home.

Good meeting with dissertation advisor; less good session with job market seminar, wherein I realized how un-pulled-together my job letter was, as I was reading it aloud to the group. The problem is that I started writing my dissertation with a very firm idea of what it was about, and now that I'm working on the last chapter, I am again *starting* to develop a firm idea of what it's about, but it's not the same thing by any means. So how to convey what it's about when I'm still working on figuring that out?

Sushi afterwards with S., which did a lot towards making life good again.

Tell him the air will be even fresher if he doesn't smoke. ;) (g,d & r)

There's this little thing called "nagging" that doesn't get the nagger what s/he wants. ;-)

I try subtle approaches.

"So, it's kind of cool. Jordan (the other manager), Tim (the chef) and I all smoke."

"Huh. Isn't it funny that a *chef* would do something that cuts down on his ability to taste?"

Good retort! At least they can't smoke in the kitchen, I hope. Yuck. I suppose he's missed the new TV adverts over here (I think they started airing just last year, so he never would have seen them) in which they show how much fat clogs your arteries from just one cigarette? I think they've actually worked well on women. ;)

Tell him you want to take a trip to Ireland to spend lots of time in some pubs. (They really are wonderful now that they're all smoke-free. ;)

I hope you feel better. I'm on antibiotics and Lemsips.

You, too. With the feeling better.

It's hard to really "perform" in front of a class when you're under the weather, yes? Normally I would do an in-class writing, but I'd had them do one the class before. So I taught one hour of the two-hour sessions yesterday and today and let them go early, as my voice was starting to go. They have a paper due Monday and all the engineers are in exams, so that's my self-justification. I had a bunch of student conferences scheduled and I didn't cancel any of them. Just part of the "performance" part where my voice and energy needed to be there.
