Oct. 15th, 2004 03:00 pmFirst of all, a very happy birthday to
linearys!
Second, a fabulous quiz lifted from
psycholibrarian

Which Eddie Izzard line are you?
brought to you by Quizilla
Third, the rest. It's been a very virus-oriented week, not in the computer sense but in the "I finally caught M.'s cold" sense. I'm feeling a lot better today but I sound like a foghorn on a particularly bad day. Of course this was the week I had a ton of student meetings, but I persevered and they were very patient and kind.
Finally saw Farenheit 9/11 --rented it last night, as M. was off and we were having a quiet convalesce this evening. M., being British, is much more class-identified than I am. (Working class.) I mean, Americans, we're all pretty much middle class, yeah? At least we all seem to talk that way.
Well, the movie contained a lot that was familiar to me already. But one thing it really pointed out is that class is a lot more real in the U.S. than we'd like to delude ourselves, and that the people who send us to war and the vast majority of people who fight in the wars are not on the same rung. I mean, I *knew* that on an intellectual level, and yeah, I know blue-collar Flint is Michael Moore's schtick, but I was seeing a lot of truth there.
Forgot to mention that, having seen *Hero* on the big screen last weekend, was it ever worth it. Even though I'd picked up the import DVD at Kim's last year, it really takes the big screen to do it justice. (It was also kinda sweet 'cause my friend R. has a crush on Tony Leung from way back and he certainly was pretty crushworthy in this one with his flowing hair and sad eyes.)
Finally, if anyone's still reading: NYC women only: My friend
kittyjosephine is looking for a new gynecologist. If you have a good one, could you contact her at SDMathews@aol.com? Thanks!
