Oct. 28th, 2004 04:36 pmHaving just sent out 7 job applications for professorships all over the country, and with 10-11 more to go out by mid-November deadlines, I now remember why it is I love living here so much.
I was walking up 8th Ave. the other day, and I spotted a political button on this guy's backpack. I was curious because it was a design I hadn't seen before, so I sped up a little so I could read it.
The reason the design was unfamiliar was because it was a Reelect Bush button. It is literally the first pro-Bush button I have seen.
Dunno if those colleges will want me, but everybody else does. My spring reappointment letter was in my box today. My friend J. called to tell me about an adjunct opening for the spring; she had emailed the chair singing my praises. (I had to graciously decline pursuing it; two different preps at Cooper plus defending is going to be more than enough.) And Chris called with a new project, and even though I had sworn off indexing until after my defense . . . intellectual property law? Right up my alley. Plus with M. out of work (he's started with the resumes and is trying to keep his spirits up), the money wouldn't hurt.
Found a lovely new ice cream place by Astor Square that does mix-ins. Got a chocolate ice cream with brownies mixed in -- much fresher lovelier brownies than in my beloved Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie. And yet, I threw it out when it was just over half-eaten. Too much sweetness. Probably this is a good thing, not just stuffing myself on ice cream because, well, chocolate.
Came to the library to read The Aeneid before meeting G. for dinner at 7. Have instead caught up on the last week of missed f-list posts. Oh well. You guys are much more fun. And I've still got a couple of hours to spend with Aeneas, Anchises and all the gang.
