Having just sent out 7 job applications for professorships all over the country, and with 10-11 more to go out by mid-November deadlines, I now remember why it is I love living here so much.

I was walking up 8th Ave. the other day, and I spotted a political button on this guy's backpack. I was curious because it was a design I hadn't seen before, so I sped up a little so I could read it.

The reason the design was unfamiliar was because it was a Reelect Bush button. It is literally the first pro-Bush button I have seen.

Dunno if those colleges will want me, but everybody else does. My spring reappointment letter was in my box today. My friend J. called to tell me about an adjunct opening for the spring; she had emailed the chair singing my praises. (I had to graciously decline pursuing it; two different preps at Cooper plus defending is going to be more than enough.) And Chris called with a new project, and even though I had sworn off indexing until after my defense . . . intellectual property law? Right up my alley. Plus with M. out of work (he's started with the resumes and is trying to keep his spirits up), the money wouldn't hurt.

Found a lovely new ice cream place by Astor Square that does mix-ins. Got a chocolate ice cream with brownies mixed in -- much fresher lovelier brownies than in my beloved Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie. And yet, I threw it out when it was just over half-eaten. Too much sweetness. Probably this is a good thing, not just stuffing myself on ice cream because, well, chocolate.

Came to the library to read The Aeneid before meeting G. for dinner at 7. Have instead caught up on the last week of missed f-list posts. Oh well. You guys are much more fun. And I've still got a couple of hours to spend with Aeneas, Anchises and all the gang.

You were at Cold Stone Creamery. I saw yesterday that they opened. Must have been really recently. Still have yet to try their ice cream :-(

Yup, that's it. Blanked the name.

It was really good -- hope I'm not losing my sweet tooth -- definitely check it out!

Oops, and meant to say -- they told me they opened in September, but I have a hard time believing I can have missed ice cream so near my workplace for a whole month!

Huh. Wonder how I missed it for so long?

I'm amazed that the guy still has the pro-Bush button and that it hasn't been ripped off his backpack and thrown in front of an oncoming subway train yet. Then again, he might have to replace the button every few days, ha ha!

Thank you! A LJ friend made it for me. :-) I am still relatively new to the world of LJ, and I have no idea how to make one myself.

Mmmmm... fresh brownie mix-in... and I work so close to Astor Place... I am SO trying this. If you'll be arounf Bobst during the week next week, do you want to meet uf for Ice Cream?

PS - Thanks for the Alice syllabus. I've had a chance only to glance at it so far. Will do a more thorough look-see over the weekend :)

Definitely -- well, this week or next, as I've now got a Horrible Freelance Deadline for a project I'll probably be working on at home.

Drop an email and let me know what's the best way of reaching you at work, ok?

Pssst... Cold Stone Creamery has a website, if you want to do research into your flavors before taking the plunge ;). Only ordered from them twice myself, as there's a huge line in the summer, but sure I could happily grow fat working through the menu. The one on 42nd Street by the Loews, the waitstaff will sing if you tip. There's also one in CT - maybe Norwalk, maybe Greenwich - saw it when being driven round by friends, and can't remember exactly which.
