If I wasn't such a slow reader and I knew I would have time to read a book a month I would totally join! Most of my reading gets done on the subway though and it's not a very long trip.

I really would love to but I just know that I wouldn't be able to keep up with the reading. A shame since this is really right up my alley.

Now if it was an every other month club, than maybe I would be able to swing it.

Well, you wouldn't have to come every month, you could come when you could... maybe we could decide on the books a few months ahead of time, that way you'd get two months to read a book...

Portland, OR. Well, one of the suburbs of said. So when I said "across the continent," I really wasn't exaggerating.

I love it here -- it's just FAR from a lot of people.

I hear such nice things about the Northwest. I'm embarking on a nationwide exercise in frustration, er, academic job search, and that's definitely one of the places that I perk up when there are jobs there.
