Just asked [livejournal.com profile] amaka, who posted about the ep, but I thought I'd throw this out generally.

I've never been able to get into Enterprise, and M. watched it faithfully if unexcitedly until this year. Last night we turned it on and . . . how long, exactly, have we been in the Mirror Mirror universe? Very cool, but we have not a clue what's going on.

I actually like Enterprise, except for the theme song. However, I note they've speeded it up this year.

Looking forward to this episode. The sad thing is that it was cancelled just as it's finally getting good. *sigh*

It is a shame -- also ironic that M. had finally given up -- I guess lots of others must have too, since I'm assuming cancellation was based on viewing figures. If it hadn't been a Trek they wouldn't have had three seasons for it to finally get good in, though. (Still bitter about Firefly, about Farscape not getting its final season, etc. ;-) )

The ep we saw had a different theme song/opening credits. Quite clever, actually.

The stench of ratings doom hung thick in the air from the moment UPN relocated Enterprise opposite the SciFi Channel's powerhouse Friday line-up of Stargate: SG1, Stargate: Atlantis, and the new Battlestar Galactica.

That's why M. stopped watching it. He generally works on Friday nighst and had to pick which I'd tape for him, and he picked Stargate. The only one I bother to watch is Galactica -- amusingly because I dislike the original series so strongly that initially I was taping it just for him; I got caught up in it and he's not so much into it. *shrug*

Why UPN chose the one night there are sf shows on another network is, of course, a total mystery. Nearly as odd as the point where Star Trek: DS9 and Star Trek: Voyager were on (first run) at the same time in the NY regional market.

I don't receive the SciFi Channel, so I can't well opine on its shows, but . . .

Theory: Because the SciFi Channel does "off-season" broadcasts -- that is, it airs its new episodes when the networks are in reruns, and vice-versa -- UPN may have hoped to share the Stargate audience, thinking that perhaps when Stargate was a rerun, its audience might be pleased to catch a new Enterprise in that same accustomed time-slot.

This was the first ep in the Mirror Universe. Tell M to beware the finale for the series. It isn't pretty.

He'll like that. Of course, now that he's back to work, I'm going to have to remember to tape. Eep.

adrift in Dark Mirror AU

As [livejournal.com profile] tv_elf said, the Dark Mirror Universe opened seriously in medias res, incipient mutiny and Tholian Web and all, in Friday's night's episode, part one of two.

When we left our Enterprise in the mainstream universe, Commander Tucker had just transferred back from his brief stint as Chief Engineer aboard Earth's second starship, and the first tentative steps have been taken toward what we know will become the Federation. My friend V. suspects that the Archer in the Dark Mirror universe is our Archer undercover; I don't think so, though.

I'm interested in the fact that the Dark Mirror universe's Empire's establishment predates the mainstream universe's Federation's establishment.

Thanks for the info, here and in your other reply. We were rivetted, and I have to admit, I used to pick up a book when M. watched the show in previous seasons.

I have faint hope it is our Archer... Or he's a putz in every universe.

Sigh. I should like him better. But Trip made such a better Captain.

I loved that they used a clip from ST: First Contact (with a sick Mirror Universe twist) as the teaser. It was beautifully done.

We loved that as well.

To be fair, M. loved it more than me because I've seen First Contact maybe twice and he is a true fanboy.
