Trek question
Apr. 24th, 2005 04:26 pmJust asked
amaka, who posted about the ep, but I thought I'd throw this out generally.
I've never been able to get into Enterprise, and M. watched it faithfully if unexcitedly until this year. Last night we turned it on and . . . how long, exactly, have we been in the Mirror Mirror universe? Very cool, but we have not a clue what's going on.

audience count
Date: 2005-04-24 11:09 pm (UTC)The stench of ratings doom hung thick in the air from the moment UPN relocated Enterprise opposite the SciFi Channel's powerhouse Friday line-up of Stargate: SG1, Stargate: Atlantis, and the new Battlestar Galactica.
Re: audience count
Date: 2005-04-25 12:36 am (UTC)Why UPN chose the one night there are sf shows on another network is, of course, a total mystery. Nearly as odd as the point where Star Trek: DS9 and Star Trek: Voyager were on (first run) at the same time in the NY regional market.

Theory: Because the SciFi Channel does "off-season" broadcasts -- that is, it airs its new episodes when the networks are in reruns, and vice-versa -- UPN may have hoped to share the Stargate audience, thinking that perhaps when Stargate was a rerun, its audience might be pleased to catch a new Enterprise in that same accustomed time-slot.

Date: 2005-04-24 09:41 pm (UTC)When we left our Enterprise in the mainstream universe, Commander Tucker had just transferred back from his brief stint as Chief Engineer aboard Earth's second starship, and the first tentative steps have been taken toward what we know will become the Federation. My friend V. suspects that the Archer in the Dark Mirror universe is our Archer undercover; I don't think so, though.
I'm interested in the fact that the Dark Mirror universe's Empire's establishment predates the mainstream universe's Federation's establishment.
