Lots going on here -- getting in grades, judging essay contests, laundry upon drycleaning upon packing, attempting to pull the apartment together for our housesitter, etc. etc. So life is one big blur with very little LJ time (I'm proud to say I've actually managed to keep reading throughout this time, though very little commenting).

I wanted to write about the couple of books I just read, I wanted to write about how amazing the last Deadwood was, I wanted to write about the odd haunted feeling I got walking down Avenue A (where I used to spend a lot of time in what feels like another life) on Sunday night after hearing some fabulous Latin jazz at the Nuyorican Poets' Cafe, I wanted to write about some feedback I've received from several sources about some fanfic I wrote ages ago and how interesting it is to revisit something like that four-five years later, I wanted to write about a lot of stuff. And maybe I still will, but not before I go, because I've got to get back to my project, then there's rest of the cleaning and the key exchange and Star Wars and then the airport.

Had one more dental consultation; I *do* need a bone graft before I can get an implant, but the (really quite lovely) oral surgeon I dealt with tells me they won't actually have to extract the bone from *me* (she called it "bone in a bottle").

And I have learned that good things are being said about me behind my back at my place of teaching, which quite cheers me.

Maybe see you next week depending on whether I'm given a moment to myself on my mum-in-law's computer (M.'s family not so good on the "alone time" concept and all mine will doubtless be used on my freelance stuff) or if there's a good wifi connection for the Toy in a tiny village where the street they live on is actually named The Street. Their house is called Lavender Cottage. I'm going to be staying at a place called Lavender Cottage. Cool.

It could be worse. We have friends in Ringwood who live near a narrow little street called The Quomp. We like to speculate about what a quomp is. :)

I'll see you next week. The Globe tickets arrived yesterday, btw. I just hope it's not awful... But if it is and our feet hurt from standing, we can always leave early. That's the joy of five pound tickets.

You have our phone numbers still, yes? I can email them to you again.

And if you do stay one night at our house, we have WIFI and we have desktops with Broadband 24/7 anyway.

I have both your and I.'s cell numbers but for some reason not your land line.

The five pound tickets compensate in part for the zillion pound train fare. ;-)

Well, wifi won't do me any good at your house, 'cause I'm leaving the Toy up in Norfolk. I'm wondering what the odds are of there being wifi in a town with one "Street": probably not good, but then, the cottage used to be a weekender's cottage so maybe there are lots of other rich Londoners with stray wifi connections within piggyback range. ;-)

Well, we both have laptops you can use with our WIFI. Or the desktops. We are equipped here.

Heck, I'll just leave the landline here. Please note that the machine is broken. It records and plays, but you won't understand it and we probably won't either. (We are planning on replacing it after payday at the end of the month. We want this new digital system with an answering machine and three phones, which means we wait until payday at the end of the month.) However, when we see a new message, we press the magic four numbers to find out who called.

Ian will be home on Friday (compensation for arriving home so late from Belgium tomorrow night). We might see Star Wars Friday or Saturday night, but then again, we might not. Saturday morning, we're up early to drop off my car for the brake job, and then we'll be running errands. And cleaning. :) So, we'll be in and out on Saturday.

I'm so sorry about the train fares. But remember -- if you try before 6.00 PM Saturday, you might get that cheaper fare.

We currently have a desktop and two laptops, in a one-room apartment. Of course, some of that is the not getting rid of my old laptop yet. (I want to give it to my mom, who has a computer so old she still uses WordPerfect 5.0 for DOS, but I'm honestly not sure how much wear is left in it.) I only ever log onto the desktop anymore to do our finances or scan.

Yeah, I"m afraid it's all going to be too seat-of-the-pants to plan ahead, but that's okay. I know I'll be at the play Sunday.

I want to stay at a place called Lavender Cottage! Why is it called that, do they have lavender flowers all over?

Yay to being praised behind your back! Were students doing that? That's awesome.

This icon isn't a commentary on anything in your post, I just haven't been able to use it yet and I wanted to. :)

I don't think so, but doesn't it sound charming? My mum-in-law has stationery that has a picture of the cottage on it . . . I mean she didn't have it made special or anything, it just existed already; it's an artist's rendition. (Which hopefully compensates for some of the difficulties they're having -- they should have realized that when you buy protected historical property, there are all kinds of regulations, and of course they were just charmed by the house and waltzed right in, unawares.)

Nah, my dean is the one saying the nice things, but I can hope for the other as well. :-)

The mailer I'm using doesn't pick up icons so I'll have to see what you mean later.

Have a lovely trip, my dear! I hope you and M come back refreshed and rejuvenated and generally all well and good (and with lots and lots of Maltesers!)

Let's meet up when you return (and when I am back to being a member of a one-dog household ;))
