Sep. 5th, 2006 06:35 amWhy am I posting at 6:35 am? Oh right, I've been up for an hour. *sigh*
One of the things I love most is hiking, but living in Manhattan and not having a car, I rarely get to do it. Sunday we went with some friends (who are car-having) up to Harriman State Park and did a small hike and it was wonderful! I get such a sense of well-being out there, especially when you've been in the woods and you've climbed up on a rise, and there's a clearing and you can see everywhere around you and the sun hits you . . . Alas, their very cute pug twisted his ankle (or so we thought) scampering up the hillside, so we didn't hike as far as we'd intended, though I am pleased to say that after a rest he was scampering about comfortably on all fours again.
Also tickled that M. has converted our artsy, woodsy, non-cable-having, not-particularly-interested-in-science-fiction friends into Doctor Who fans. (One of them lived in England until he was 10, so had childhood memories, but hadn't seen it in decades until M. pressed a stack of Eccleston and Tennant eps on him . . . )
Very sad at our house about Steve Irwin; I'd always dismissed the guy because of the silliness, but M. really admired him for the way he built up Australia zoo and brought an awareness of wildlife to a large popular audience, and we've been tuning to The Crocodile Hunter Diaries at dinnertime a good deal lately.
We were out of the country for the SG-1 200th episode, but one of
nutmeg3's posts this weekend recommended it for general fangirl-glee-inducing and Farscape in-jokes. So we got our hands on a copy and though we're saving it for this evening, in the five minutes I did see when we were testing it, caught several Farscape references already. Can't wait!
.
*deep breath* Jumping in the shower now and getting ready for the first day. I'm very comfortable in the classroom now, and excited about my courses this semester, but there are always opening-morning jitters! (Not to mention, what shall I wear when we're expecting a downpour but I'm still in first-impression-making mode . . . )

That ep was TOO funny.

Date: 2006-09-14 06:44 pm (UTC)How my heart would have skipped a beat, though, to see pseudo-Crichton and pseudo-Aeryn together again, instead of Daniel-pseudo-Crichton. But I am a sad, sad John/Aeryn 'shipper.

Date: 2006-09-21 06:42 am (UTC)(okay, there was a bit of time in S4 when all Aeryn could do was cause John pain, and part of me wanted him to hook up with Chiana for the fun sex -- but the minute J/A kissed in the corridor, I was right back in love with both of them)
Thank goodness for the miniseries!

Yes -- at least they gave us our resolution. Even if it was about 18 hours short of what it should have been.
First day...
Date: 2006-09-05 12:49 pm (UTC)Damn the rain... I always look forward to fall classes because I wear cute shoes for several weeks, but "rain definite" as a forecast sort of blows that!
Re: First day...
Date: 2006-09-05 07:53 pm (UTC)I managed to double-whammy myself. I wore comfy shoes, but they are comfy shoes that shouldn't have been worn without tights, so I am going "aaah, lovely squishy cushiony shoes . . . ouch, blisters!" Duh.

Date: 2006-09-05 04:29 pm (UTC)I'm quite blue about Steve Irwin, too. Much more so than I expected, actually. I keep thinking about him at odd moments and feeling such a strong sense of loss. I think I'll tune in Leno tonight to see if he says anything, because I think he used to have Steve on pretty regularly.
