nonfic, Bondfic, and students
Nov. 7th, 2008 10:08 amSo, having sworn that my fanfic days are over (at least until I have a few publishable articles out there, or more free time than at present), I just signed up for the
martianholiday fic exchange, because that one's always been special to me.
linaerys had an interesting poll in her journal about primary fannish involvement, and I think giving up ficcing has definitely distanced me from fandom. Ah, well.
However, I was batting around an old fic idea with M. last night -- Daniel Craig!Bond/Judi Dench!M -- he was skeptical at first because "he can have any hot woman he wants" and I pointed out that a) that's exactly it -- he can't have *her* and b) older women/younger men is one of my kinks -- and ought to be one of his considering I'm nine years older than him. ;-) By the end of the conversation we were plotting it out together. Hmmmm. Wonder if it will go anywhere . . .
My students are so cute sometimes. So many of them so excited about the election and then of course I realized it's the first time they could vote. Yay them! And . . . I have this one student who is very unsure of herself and we were talking about her perception of how most of her classmates seemed to know each other and she didn't. Because I have always subscribed to the Shy Person School of Go Talk to the Person Who Looks as Lost as You Are theory of life, we talked about some people who were nice who she might try to talk to. Most of them already seem to have a buddy/buddies, though. I mentioned one girl in the class who is very quiet and she seemed to dismiss her kind of quickly. Quiet Girl happens to be quite heavy, and I thought Oh, maybe Unsure Student is being sizeist . . . yuck. Bleah. Anyway, just by chance and based on when they completely the first part of a workshop assignment, I had them critique each other's essays last time. Afterwards Unsure Student stayed behind and I asked her how she was doing. She was all bubbly about "Quiet Girl is *really* nice, I really liked working with her!" So after this past class, I heard them making plans to go get coffee. Sometimes people don't disappoint you after all.

Date: 2008-11-07 04:20 pm (UTC)I'm very tempted by the idea, but it's as yet to be seen as to whether I can write these characters. Luckily we have a copy of Casino Royale, and a new movie to go and see, so . . . maybe . . . .
