Hah! For years M. has been saying that the next time he'd enter a movie theater (it's been since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which, okay, is trauma enough in itself -- although Indy + Marian 4-ever!) was to see The Hobbit.

For days he has been nagging me to watch his illegally downloaded copy, and after strict, strict, strict pledges that we were still seeing it in the theater on Boxing Day, I relented.

We fell asleep 20 minutes in, although I suspect the second glass of port might have been a factor. I'm awake again and trying to stay up 'til 10:30 when Christmas Eve service begins (I grew up going to an earlier "family service" and HATE this "midnight mass" tradition). He's snoring away.

God Bless Us, Every One! Holiday anticlimax, FTW.

I was fine with that Indy film (although it was a rental -- didn't see it in the cinema) because Marian was back. :)

Your story reminds me of the late '80s-early '90s when my ex and I would rent a video on Friday nights and I'd fall asleep soon after it started...

Marian really saved it for me, because I'd only been waiting for their closure for . . . twenty years? thirty? Overall, though, not a good movie.

I finally stopped renting movies with M. as a usual weekend thing exactly for that reason -- we'd rent something we'd compromised on, and he'd fall asleep and I'd end up watching some bland sitcom I didn't care about. Now I just wait for him to fall asleep, and I watch one of my own DVDs . . . and we're more likely to rent and watch together on a weekend afternoon when he can remain conscious . . .

Awwwwww. Well, it is one I would recommend seeing in the theatre for the full impact of the visuals, anyway, though probably the nap at the time was appreciated. ;)

Merry Christmas!

Oh, I totally plan on seeing it in the theater still; we've decided to wait 'til the weekend because he's recovering from something but we are going. Dammit. Before we nodded off over our port-and-Tolkien he was doing all the fanboy squeeing, so we may still have to do the on-computer version as well so that he can get it all out of his system.

You too!
