Oct. 16th, 2013 06:53 amHappy Day After Ada Lovelace day! Since I don't have an Ada icon, I'll use her dad, although I'm super-impressed that nobody's even mentioning him in this context.
I'm happy to say I'm participating in a one-day conference on Ada Lovelace at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ on Friday. I'm part of a panel on steampunk literature, but a lot of the panels are much more oriented to Ada's achievements, so I'm really looking forward to learning more about her work from historians of science and etc. Yay!
In related news, the reason I missed it yesterday is probably because I've been burning the candle at both ends so much this semester. Last night I sleepily kept putting my old password into gmail -- one I changed nearly two years ago now -- and couldn't imagine what was wrong. Fell asleep about ten minutes into Agents of SHIELD, which is ridiculous -- it's on at 8 -- but woke up at 11:30 when SOMEONE dropped his bedside glass of seltzer and we had to clean up the broken glass. (yeah, we. I was more awake -- suddenly -- and broken glass and cat paws would not have been a good combination.) Grrr. He's getting plastic for overnight since he clearly can't be trusted.

Date: 2013-10-19 01:38 pm (UTC)LOL! We went onto plastic glasses next to the bed for much the same reason (and even before we got the cats). Now we can't even have plastic glasses as Pepper starts pushing things off the bedside tables to get attention in the night. We keep a plastic bottle by the bed with the cap on - and just top it up as and when.
