Aug. 10th, 2015 08:48 amOn my way back from Buffalo; my cousin from Ohio met me there. It was a different experience because I only slept at the house on Thursday. Turning Dad's study into a guest room is too stressful for Mom now, so once Cindy got there on Friday, I stayed at Chrissy's. We (the three Cs) hit the Anchor Bar, original home of Buffalo chicken wings for lunch on Saturday, then wandered around Elmwood Avenue til dinner time, drove back out to Hamburg and went out to dinner with the parents. Then we Cs went out for a drink and ended up back at Chrissy's talking til late. Sunday I got some work done in the morning (that and my usual area errands, aka a visit to the Seneca reservation to stock up on M's cigarettes, took up Friday). Cindy and I drove up to the Falls on Sunday. It was the first time I'd been to the American side in many years, since Cindy doesn't have a current passport. Pre2001, we used to cross the border with our drivers' licenses, but no more. They'd done a lot to the park on the U.S. side and it was quite lovely. Then home for dinner with my parents.
Dad is having more and more trouble with language. It's hard to see him fading. He took his walker instead of his cane when we went out to dinner. I wonder how many more visits there will be; every time I leave now I feel that way.
Amtrak is comfortable and there's a great view of fields now and the Hudson later. Wish it was a bit faster but otherwise I'm happy.
