M is away at Chicago TARDIS, and my parents don't like to make a fuss or a big meal anymore (and it's quite a trip for this late in the semester), so I went up to the Hudson Valley to see my oldest friend and have Thanksgiving at a restaurant with her and her brother.

Then she and I went to see Thor:Ragnarok. I kept whispering to her "it's fanfic!" Between all the Thor & Loki stuff, the sense of humor, some of the Hulk and/or Bruce stuff, Valkyrie being the female hero we wanted and needed . . . it seemed like it was calculated to delight the audience. In past outings, Thor was always pretty, but not that interesting -- now he's a hoot. Certainly after his performance as Kevin the Receptionist in the new Ghostbusters, it's been clear that Hemsworth can be hilarious. The only thing I'm really worried about, when Bruce turned back into the Hulk, is whether he'll ever be Bruce again. (I'm rather fond of Mark Ruffalo in the role.)

Also, I'm less than excited about extended fight scenes, but add "Immigrant Song" and they get so much better.

I thought the fight scenes in Thor: Ragnarok were okay, length-wise, and generally not too gory. I really hated the ones in Civil War, but then again, the overall film most likely influences my view.
