Beautiful film, well-cast.

I do see some flaws, mostly relying on visual spectacle and minimizing some aspects of the story. We could have used more of the drabness of Camazotz; that part felt rushed. And though the three Mrs. looked lovely, Oprah's sequinned eyebrows verged on self-parody.

However. I sat there with a handkerchief through most of the movie, actually crying because I felt so moved by this important favorite of my childhood being displayed onscreen.

I hadn't reread the book in decades; in fact, my copy got donated sometime back. And I failed to like the next two in the series, as Meg got sidelined and that bothered me. But this story resonates way back to my discovering the book in my elementary school library, being utterly riveted, taking it out several times until my aunt, who worked for Scholastic publishers at the time, came up with my very own copy.

I thought it was good, too -- for what I expected. Meg was incandescent; the casting was incredible (not just for her; I liked the Mx. Whos too, and the little White boy they found). And I personally liked that they surgically removed Christianity. Could have probably done with more spirituality in its stead, which is a fair reading of L'Engle as wel.
