Captain Marvel (excited!) and Iron Fist 2 (soooo much improved!)

So excited about the Captain Marvel trailer! Have ordered the first two of the Kelly Sue DeConnick collections on Comixology. (I know I could do unlimited, but I don't need another monthly fee and would rather keep the ones I order.)

But . . . I had my students talking about social media in class, mostly so that we could examine their writing practice because that's what we do. And one of my students was talking about how he and his friends use group chats to talk about movies and how they're all excited about Venom and not that excited about Captain Marvel.

When I raised the gender issue he said no, it was just that Venom looks action packed and Captain Marvel doesn't really.

I had exactly the opposite reaction. I thought "wow, Captain Marvel looks like it has plot! And character development!" Whereas Venom will give me a headache. (And having just seen Tom Hardy play both Kray twins in Legend, which M finally got me to watch, trust me, I am not unappreciative of either his talent or his manly beauty.)

Also, OMG, I actually liked Iron Fist season 2. I did not feel miserable at the end like I have at the end of all the other MNetflixU second seasons -- instead we got a fantastic ending for Colleen and solid Colleen & Misty friendship that really really really looks like the set up for Daughters of the Dragon or at the very least lots of future interaction in IF and maybe LC going forward. Misty is the new Claire, in that she's now the one who moves between shows most easily and it would be very cool if she cameo'ed in DD and JJ but probably not. And Danny was far more likable and Ward got some really solid character development. And again, not miserable at the end.

Awwww, sweet. I didn't know there was a season 2 for Ironfist or that Misty shows up in it! We are moving so slowly on season 2 JJ and haven't even gotten to LC season 2 yet. *headdesk*

THANK YOU. I feel like the only one who's moving that slowly on s2 JJ, but it's...kind of brutal.

I can't wait for Captain Marvel. I don't care so much about Venom? BUT I WILL BE GOING TO CAPTAIN MARVEL.

I did the exact opposite of either of you and binged all of JJ2 on a snow day. My psyche is still recovering.

I'm sure we'll watch Venom on TV. But Captain Marvel is definitely an in-theater one for me!

I'm not sure if you see my response to Havoc, so . . . I watched all of JJ season 2 on a snow day. Still recovering from that . . . Those shows are pretty much top fandoms for me, though, and as Marty's only interested in Daredevil, I tend to binge them on odd occasions . . .

Yep, me too. I love JJ and LC the best of all the Marvel. Such good writing.

We should buckle down and marathon through JJ one weekend or we'll never get through these shows.

Haven't seen it yet, but I heard Colleen's part gets MUCH bigger, and YAY.

I am excited about Captain Marvel! and the MCU people sure do know how to put together a nice trailer. Though maybe I'm not a great judge, because my biggest reaction was when Nineties Nick Fury whipped off his sunglasses to reveal . . . TWO PERFECTLY GOOD EYES! *gasp*!

(I have friends who care about Venom, but I'm not at all convinced that I care about Venom).

Also looking forward to Colleen and Misty being friends! I'm way behind on my Marvel TV watching (still need to catch up with Luke Cage) but invariably I end up wanting all the Normal Humans to befriend each other and have cameos in all the other shows.

I think the Marvel fandom is just a lost cause there -- we can't even get the creators to care for women before it's a decade or so post their first movie; how to begin with the fanboys so steeped in misogyny? (I've spent too much time with gamers lately, who are depressing.)
