OMG!! My book's getting published.
Dec. 18th, 2018 10:27 pmHere's what I posted to Facebook:
omg, omg, omg everyone! I have a contract for my first novel! It is a historical romance (you're surprised) set in the 19th century (you're suddenly significantly less surprised) with Prairie Rose Publications. More details to come. I will, of course, be following in the tradition of Eloisa James and Amanda Cross and the no doubt many other female academics who publish popular fiction under another name, but I'll make sure you all know what that name is, shortly . . . Adding to my stellar list of publications like "Darkness Falls on the Endless Summer: Buffy as Gidget for the Fin de Siecle" "Curiouser and Curiouser: Law in the Alice Books", "Ada Bright and Dark: Steampunk Representations of the Enchantress of Numbers" and the forthcoming soon to be chart topper "Faculty and Professional Tutors, the Writing Center and STEM" is . . . actual fiction! (They've told me they may change my title, so I'll hold off on that reveal as well.)
And here's rest:
I chose Prairie Rose, a small indie publisher, on purpose as the right balance for me for my first project. They had a specific call which matched something I was working on. They publish my amazing friend C. A. Asbrey, and if you have any interest at all in historical mysteries with a romantic edge -- female Pinkerton!!! -- you should totally read her The Innocents series.
I am beside myself with excitement at the moment. I guess I'd always assumed I wasn't good enough -- in the fanfic world, I'm not a very big deal. Of course, the fact that I never write in the popular fandoms, or the popular pairings or genres probably has a lot to do with that. And I have to be up early in the morning and all I can think of is how excited I am!!!!!!!!!!
Title and pseudonym closer to the time.
