The Year in Fandom Meme
Dec. 31st, 2018 08:16 amYour main fandom this year? Writing and getting to know other fans, definitely Alias Smith and Jones.
Your favourite film watched this year? What does it say that I'm hard-pressed to come up with one? I think I just haven't had much time or energy for movies recently. If documentaries count, RBG.
Your favourite book read this year? C. A. Asbrey's historical mystery series The Innocents.
Your favourite tv show of the year? The utter delight that is The Good Place and also I was absurdly into American Horror Story: Apocalypse.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year? Wynonna Earp. Why was I not watching this totally cheesy but still brilliant combination of everything I love best all along? Why am I so in love with Doc? Why did they make some of the absolutely ridiculous or painful or just story-arc-confusing choices they made? I am a bit afraid of the fic, however -- not that I don't love Wayhaught, but as they're delightfully canon, I'm more interested in reading about "Contessa" Kate or what Wynnona was getting up to before she came back to Purgatory or etc., and I understand this is one of those high-volume fandoms.
Your biggest fandom disappointment? All the Marvel Netflix Universe cancellations. Much as I love most of the shows on their own, I also know that next year's season of my adored Jessica Jones will inevitably be the final one. (Please have Jessica and Trish reconcile! Please have Luke show up at the end to try again with Jess! #marriedinthecomics forever!)
Your tv boyfriend of the year? Doc Holliday on Wynnona Earp
Your tv girlfriend of the year? Sarah Paulson's Cordelia Goode on AHS: Apocalypse -- when she walked onscreen at the end of a particular episode, flanked by two of the other coven members and to the tune of "She's a Rainbow," I had shivers all up and down my spine.
Your biggest squee moment of the year? As immediately above, re Cordelia on AHS. I rewound and rewatched that scene about five times before I could finish the episode!
The most missed of your old fandoms? I'd have to say by getting back into ASJ, I was getting into my most-missed old fandom, though I did that in 2017. I have absolutely no idea why it inspires me to write more than any other -- actually I probably do but I won't bore y'all with it. I do keep thinking I'd like to do a Buffy rewatch, and also a Veronica Mars one (though that was not one of my fandoms at the time) because we're getting more VMars and I. Can't. Wait!!
The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to? I do keep thinking that I would like to watch The Americans but I seem to be doing better with getting around to smaller canons.

Date: 2018-12-31 03:44 pm (UTC)I share your feelings about Doc, Jessica Jones, Sarah Paulson (though I don't watch AHS), wanting to watch The Americans..
And now I want to read The Innocents. Last week I accidentally purchased one month of Kindle Unlimited, and the first volume is available! :: Downloads ::

Date: 2019-01-04 12:46 pm (UTC)Have you started The Innocents yet? Christine has done an amazing job, I think, of creating a 19th century heroine who's strong and proactive without being anachronistic, and the level of detail she's put into her -- in sf or fantasy, we'd call it worldbuilding, but perhaps here world-recreation? -- is remarkable. Like she understands 19th century forensics!

Date: 2019-01-05 02:30 pm (UTC)I have started to read it, am just a few pages in (she's at the office post-robbery), and I'm intrigued to see what happens next. Looks like great fun.
(In fact, I'm going to get off the computer and go read some right now.)

Date: 2019-01-18 10:57 pm (UTC)My lovely mate Tinny offered to make my fandom wish for icons come true so I got Doc and Happy... This is beginning to sound like Snow White and it really, really isn't. She does good work.
