So, Vanessa, bad lifestyle choices, eh? To be fair if I didn't know Dr. Sweet was Dracula, I'd find him quite charming and adorable, too.
And what was the point of the whole Ethan plot? Except to show that Sir Malcolm was all in for Team Ethan, which, duh. Rusk's dead, Hecate's dead, Brian Cox, er, Talbot Senior is dead . . . so can't figure out how to resolve the plot and get back to London and Team Vanessa? Let's just massacre all the characters who are entangling us. Hopefully Kaetenay is on board for the trip, as he's the best thing to come out of all this.
Whyyyyyyyyy are you taking my Ferdinand Lyle away from me? PLEASE tell me this is the lead-in to a spin-off called Ferdinand Lyle's Egyptology Adventures. I look forward to Catriona in the cast, though; she's cool and Vanessa really needed a new female friend. Thanatologist, eh?
Erm, except, speaking of female friends, what are you thinking, Dr. Seward? I mean, yes, pursue cute guy, Vanessa, get on with your life, but, erm, does nobody on this show do their research? Also, a meat cleaver?
Looks like Dorian and Lily might be breaking up soon. A pity; I like them together rather more than I like them individually -- they're that Murderous It Couple who are fun to watch. And they do blood-soaked threesomes remarkably well.
And my dear John Clare. Will his plots *ever* intersect with the rest of the cast's? Speaking of which, even though Victor's an idiot, it was good to see him with Dorian and Lily if for no other reason than that it's been seeming like he and Jekyll *are* in their own spinoff, one which *should be* as homoerotic as Ferdinand Lyle's Egyptology Adventures but mostly is kind of boring. Since there are only 3 episodes left, I'm guessing we get full-on Mr. Hyde in the season finale/cliffhanger.
But back to John Clare . . . this was straight from the book: the de Lacey plot (the family that the Creature spies on from his hiding place and thus learns language, literacy, and how things work for people who aren't sewn together from dead bodies and then abandoned by their creators) and a little bit Victor's younger brother William who screams at the sight of the Creature. Clare's grown so much as a character; he's the only one in the series who's getting *nicer*. But why he can't join Team Vanessa at some point -- their budding friendship last season was one of the highlights, and she could certainly use a terrifying undead bodyguard with more than human strength . . .
It makes sense that his son would be horrified at his appearance, both because he's all undead and scary, period, and also just because he doesn't look the way he'd be remembered, despite the fact that he apparently *sounds* the same, and maybe *felt* the same? (Not just his touch, which should have been icy cold, but also his aura.) Except that the ship's captain and that guy who was chatting with him on the stagecoach into London were both talking to him like he was a regular person. Sure, these are adults and certainly there were lots of victims of industrial accidents running around Industrial Revolution England. But they seem to switch the "he's horrifying" bit on and off this season, especially.
And what I find strangest in this series is that in some ways, Frankenstein's Creature becomes the character where I'm going "don't go there. don't do that. this will end badly." Almost like *he* is that protagonist in the horror movie where you're going "don't go into that room!" My heart was breaking for him as he sobbed, but I hope he's sensible and stays away. This is him, though, so probably not. Oh, John Clare, John Clare.
And in conclusion, who do we talk to in order to make Ferdinand Lyle's Egyptology Adventures a thing?

Date: 2016-06-10 09:28 am (UTC)I get why Vanessa likes Sweet, definitely. I was all "Vanessa finally met someone who gets her!" until the big reveal. Well, John Clare gets her, but that is clearly not going anywhere romantic. I'm not sure Ethan entirely gets her, but he obviously wants to. I was definitely shipping them last season, anyway. But it would have been nice if she could have found someone a little less monstrous. Not to be!

Date: 2016-06-10 08:23 am (UTC)At first I felt ratehr upset with shipping Ferdinand Lyle of to Egypt for an unknown time. Then I noticed he talked about Imhotep's tomb and now I wonder if tehy aren't setting up the next season. I assume Dracula will be dealt with and they will need a new Big Bad. And the Mummy's name is Imhotep. So I hope we will have our Mr. Lyle back next season shock full os useful Egyptology.
Though I sure wouldn't mind Ferdinand Lyle's Egyptology Adventures.
I like catrion though, and with Dr Seward we are getting a better gender balance on the good guys.
Dorian and Lily has such different goals, after all- I'm sure they will part and probably not in an amiable way. Especially is Lily learns what happened to Angelique. i don't Think she would approve.
I really feel John Clare should be integrated with the rest of the plotline. I Think he will be as we have seen that he and Vanessa has a much deeper bond. I Think he may prove to be crucial to jelp her against Dracula. i also Think his son will die and he will beg Victor to make a mini-Creature of him.
The scene with him and his son was pretty heartbreaking, though!

Date: 2016-06-10 09:34 am (UTC)Oh, that's true. Angelique is completely the kind of person Lily supports. Although Angelique was totally jealous of Lily . . . Yeah, Dorian seems more and more marginalized in his own home.
Well, John Clare has not read/seen Interview with the Vampire -- making someone undead before they are fully grown is not fair to them. But you might well be right about that.
I really thought at the end of s. 1 when everything centered on the Grand Guignol, that the Creature would get folded in to the main narrative. Maybe his separate storylines reflect his isolation in the world, but again, the guy's inhumanly strong and etc.; we get the point, but now let him use that for Team V!
