Without Fanfare . . .
Jun. 14th, 2019 05:31 amLast time we had a season of Jessica Jones, it was teased and promo'ed for months. I remember watching the first promos obsessively over the summer, and I remember mainlining all of season 2 on a snow day, so that was a big buildup.
I just want it to be the satisfying resolution that Daredevil season 3 was.
I know from the promos we are getting some kind of Jessica - Trish closure, which I desperately need.
Hopes for Malcolm, but I guess we'll see.
And in my heart, I can't help but hope for a Luke cameo at the end, but I know that may not happen.
Gotta order more of the comics on Comixology. I've read most of the Jessica titles, except Pulse, which I still have to finish -- but which hasn't been doing much for me. Next, Defenders comics. But she shows up in some Avengers comics, too? All of these intertwined universes are tough for those of us only looking for certain characters . . .
M just left for work so . . . here we go! Well, at least Netflix put it on the top of my screen . . .

>"But she shows up in some Avengers comics, too?"
:-) Yes. :-) Basically, everyone in Marveldom shows up in some Avengers comics, and usually some X-Men comics, too. Such is Marvel. :-)
Your Jessica was a member of the New Avengers, right? (Or was it the Young Avengers? I get confused: these were after my regular-monthly-issue years.) And all of them were later made regular Avengers? In any case, she was around for the second-most-recent saga misusing my favorite Scarlet Witch, including the ever-popular Avengers vs. X-Men showdown trope. ;-) I believe that she lived in Avengers Mansion for a number of years.
Luke Cage shows up in two -- or three? -- issues of the second, 12-issue, The Vision and the Scarlet Witch limited series (now sold as "A Year in the Life"), which I dearly love. But that was before Jessica's creation.

Date: 2019-06-14 05:48 pm (UTC)Just one little Wanda mini. Throw us a bone, Marvel. I am never going to buy all those fucking Conan and Carnage and whatever else is new. I would buy a Wanda story!

Date: 2019-06-16 11:32 pm (UTC)But when I wrote that sentence, I was actually thinking of "The Children's Crusade," a later story, which was a poor choice of reference in context. (1) Jessica is barely in it, just walk-on roles. (2) It did its very, very best to put right what "House of M," "Darker Than Scarlet," and "Vision Quest" itself put wrong, and it has some scenes that I welcome into canon wholeheartedly and with cheers; I'm grateful for as far as it brought us. It's not really its fault that it wasn't granted the scope to rebuild that it needed... and that I doubt that even granted scope, whether it could rise to the level of vintage Steve Englehart for a fully-rounded Wanda: mutant, magic user, immigrant, citizen, civilian, hero, teacher, student, wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend...
Right there with you. Thanks for asking. :-)

OH MY GOD, I actually fucking forgot about that one. Blissful ignorance!

I really need to get my hands on that. -- What did you think of the later trades by James Robinson? I know some Wanda fans didn't like them because no mutant background, and yeah, some of the Female Magic stuff was wonky, but I loved the art (esp those gorgeous Aja covers) and, well, it was nice having Wanda not be insane or destroying the world or not knowing who she is. Which is a depressingly low bar....

Date: 2019-06-15 07:15 pm (UTC)That makes it incredibly complicated for anyone who just wants to track the history of Jessica Jones . . . or Captain Marvel . . . or, well, those are the ones for me. I was reading Ms. Marvel, too, the Kamala Khan one, but then I looked away for a bit, and I know she's in a bunch of teamups, too.

Date: 2019-06-15 07:28 pm (UTC)Jessica Drew is Spider-Woman! She's Carol's BFF in some nice stories. Supposedly BENDIS wanted to use Drew as a character, but he couldn't, so he dreamed up Jess instead.

Date: 2019-06-16 11:49 pm (UTC)(Yep, the Jessica Drew character existed for decades before Jessica Jones. I understand that Jessica Jones's creation as a character started with a plan for a Jessica Drew story that went in a direction that wouldn't work for Jessica Drew, so instead of changing the story, the author imagined a new lead character, and talked Marvel into it.)
Yes, as you'd guess, the point of all the zillions of crossovers is -- besides good stories and fan-service -- to sell more comics. It can be challenging, loving mid-tier characters who rarely get their own titles, but pop up all over the place in cameos!

ME TOO. Especially after LC S2 ended on a damn cliffhanger basically! Jessica was the second Netflix superhero after Matt so she really deserves a great sendoff! ....I'm a sap but I just really want her and Trish to reconcile. I may have to go to fic for them superheroing together, that's okay. I just want them to be sisters again. It doesn't have to be awesome perfect lovey dovey. Just something.
Also I've found this site really helpful for rounding up character appearances https://crushingkrisis.com/collecting-avengers-comic-books-as-graphic-novels-a-definitive-guide/jessica-jones-collecting-guide-reading-order/
I've read Alias (awesome!), Pulse (ehh), Jessica Jones by the Alias team of Bendis and Gaydos (ARRRGH), and Jessica Jones by Kelly Thompson which was digital-only singles and two trades. Vol 1, the first trade, Blind Spot, was okay. Vol 2, Purple Daughter, made me go ARRRRGH all over again. But I'm glad to have read all of them. She does show up in the Defenders digital/trade collection too, altho that wasn't that great. I've never even tried to track all her Young/New Avengers stuff. I did get the 1-vol Jessica Jones: Avenger, but it wasn't really worth the price new.
