I don't really follow Wynonna Earp fandom very closely, partly because it seems to be very young and to favor social media outlets that I don't generally follow.

Also because it is very much centered on Wayhaught and though Waverly and Nicole are indeed the most adorable ever, I find Wynonna and especially my crush, Doc Holliday, more central to my own fannish interests.

But after the whole clusterf**k of season 4 being put into jeopardy by IDW's financial woes (and NOT because of the network for a change, as both SyFy and Space want at least 2 more seasons), I am over the moon that it's going to be happening, that it sounds as though we haven't lost any major players (well, any more, I still miss Dolls), and that at least one of my fandoms may not a) be over, and b) be over in a way that disappoints me.

[Anyone who's been reading knows how devastated I was by Jessica Jones s. 3, and that, much as that Steve/Peggy moment at the end of Endgame was sweet and lovely, it also pretty much erased the whole point of Agent Carter with the whole getting past loss and moving on with one's life message. Captain Marvel was wonderful but I'm still waiting for the official announcement of a sequel. And the fandom I write in most often is a show that ran from 1971-1973, so I'm not getting any more of that . . . so yes, Wynonna, I am overjoyed.]

I was so sad about Dolls that I stopped watching last season (I shipped Ghost River Triangle with an intensity beyond reason). I keep meaning to catch up. I heard it was a hell of a ride.

I am glad it's getting another year though. I hadn't heard about the drama.

So much drama. I follow much of the cast on Instagram, so that's my usual point of contact. Apparently, although SyFy and Space had guaranteed renewal for seasons 4 & 5, IDW, who owns the comics and was co-producing, had dismal financials. Netflix didn't take up the option to continue international distribution, either. The writers' room was supposed to open by a certain date, and didn't. It kept dragging on. Fans launched billboard campaigns in Times Square* and LA, as well as various email, letter, and etc. campaigns. The actors had to start taking other jobs, but remained committed to the show and were very supportive of the fans. In the end, SyFy and Space ended up ponying up more than they were obligated to by contract, and a new international distributor signed on, so we'll get season 4 a year later than anticipated, in summer 2020.

*Which, like most actual New Yorkers, I avoid like the plague.

I don't really have the inside track, but looking around, it seems like the UK DVDs are the only ones available. IDW is selling season 1, only, on BluRay directly on their site. (We DO have a multiregional DVD player and DON'T have a BluRay player, but somehow I'm nervous about buying anymore UK DVDs as the technology is changing so quickly I wonder whether I'll be able to replace the multiregional one when this one conks out.)

Yikes. What a ride. I follow the show because I love Wynonna and her trash fire of a life, not because I like Doc (he’s okay, but he also has a trash fire of a life), also they got Megan Follows for a season (GODDAMN, she is perfect, always), and I love Waverly and Nicole, though the fandom for them is...softer and fluffier and more comfy than I would be were I writing about them. (People should do what they want. That is just not what I would want to do.)

But I am glad the show is coming back. That would have been a terrible, terrible ending for it. I can be patient.

Wynonna fits the outsider heroine paradigm that usually hooks me -- Jessica Jones and so many others, in all their infinite variety. And I do have a type, as far as fictional crushes go -- thank goodness not IRL! -- and Doc fits the parameters. Trash fire definitely, which is one of the reasons purely fictional. ;-)
