It's publication day!

So I am super excited to announce that today is publication day for my book, Courting Anna.

Accordingly, I am spending a ridiculous portion of the day updating my social media, being ridiculously excited, and otherwise existing in a state of joyous disbelief. I have already downloaded the eBook onto both my Kindle and my phone; since it's a POD paperback, my copy won't arrive until tomorrow or Saturday. I think that's when it will be real. I read both paper books and ebooks, but I'm old fashioned and it'll be a book when it's in my hands!

And this is where you go and look at my gorgeous cover! (Because my attempts to upload images to Dreamwidth continue to fail.) And buy the book if you are so inclined: Courting Anna

I know it's via Amazon, and I've already been Amazon-shamed by one friend, but my small publisher simply finds that Amazon makes it possible for them to exist. I am offering to send author's copies to anyone who doesn't want to engage with Amazon directly -- just message me.

But I don't mean to be pushing anyone to buy -- just celebrate with me, yes? Hurrah!!!!!

I see that it's also being offered to me to read for free from "Kindle Unlimited." I hope that this is equivalent to YouTube Premium, in that you get paid (by them) although I get it "free"...

Yes, apparently there's some kind of royalty scheme for authors on Kindle Unlimited based on how much of the book you actually read -- so I'll just ask my KU readers to finish the book! ;-)

Authors are paid per page read, so if you read for "free" via KU, all you need to do is read through to the end! Which I know you will do regardless.

A couple of my friends in the UK have their hard copies already! I will believe it is really a book when mine arrives . . . . nevermind that, as I said, I have it downloaded to my Kindle and my phone . . . .

Thanks! I have been in total "wow, this is really happening" mode all day. And a couple of my UK friends already have their hard copies, but mine is supposed to be arriving tomorrow, and why is it that the ebook doesn't seem . . . official?

Thanks! I hope you like it -- I really loved writing it, and I'm fascinated by the early history of women in the professions. (I'll be doing blog posts for my publisher on the subject and I'll definitely crosspost the links here and elsewhere!)

Of course, I am nervous about my West when a real Westerner is reading it. I chose Montana because my third cousin (hey, we're a small family, we keep in touch with distant relatives) moved there (from Westchester, NY!) and another friend once upon a time did Americorps there.

But I do think women had more freedom the further away they got from oppressive social norms, so . . . .

That's fine. I think in the smaller world of DW, there's a level of trust that I might not have on FB, for example. (And not just because my publishers are on my flist . . . )

I'll be really interested in what you, as a Victorianist, think. I was kind of writing a collision between the Wild West and the more restrictive Victorian society and the New Woman all at once. The origins were in my dissertation, oddly enough . . . . We see a woman operating in a more open society, but we also see a small town going all Middlemarch.

I'm about 30% through it so far and enjoying it. I really enjoyed the courtroom scene where Anna shows up the lawyer from the other town. And I really like our two handsome outlaws trying to walk the straight and narrow. They just recovered the furniture and are headed back. I'm really interested to see how the romance continues to play out.

Those segments are the longest ones where the characters are apart -- I was trying to work some adventure in there. Next comes the mystery . . . and after that, the scandal!
