I'm excited to hear the news about AO3 winning a Hugo! I know what a home it is for so many of us. While I may not be the most prolific of fanfic writers, or write in the most popular fandoms or the most popular pairings, fanfic has given me a lot, including a chance to develop my craft and make wonderful friends, and AO3 is the best place for it.
What
silme13 texted me from her and
bethynyc's hotel room in Dublin, though was even more exciting! (Silme tried phoning me via Messenger, but somehow I couldn't hear her, even though she could hear me.) Elsa Sjunneson-Henry, who was one of the team from Uncanny Magazine, and co-editor of the Disabled People Destroy Science Fiction special issue, works part-time for me at the university Writing Center that I run. So I feel almost maternal about this one -- I believe the term is "kvelling"? Also, her adorable service dog, the one we have to put signs all over the Center saying "yes, he's adorable. No, you can't pet him", made a huge hit, I'm told!
