almost there . . . .
Dec. 24th, 2019 04:58 amSo I've been having some nice holiday-ish moments with friends over the past few weeks -- a Festival of Lessons and Carols (I often sing in it, but was too exhausted this year to commit to rehearsals), The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center, a coffee date in Brooklyn (sadly, I spend so much time shuttling between home in Manhattan and work in Newark that I don't get out of my own borough into others nearly often enough). And later this morning my BFF is coming down to see Star Wars with me, then spend Christmas Eve and Day with us, so yay! M is working 'til mid-afternoon and not joining us for the movie, so we're going to have to keep quiet about any spoilers, though, so that'll be tricky. I'll go off to Christmas Eve service on my own (I'm the only one of us who does that sort of thing) and leave her with M to watch a festive movie and catch up, but this year we have a 5pm service, so if I get a taxi home, we'll have plenty of time for a nice evening with nibbles and wine afterwards.
Then we'll have a relaxing Christmas Day . . . except for M, who is roasting a duck. The next morning I have a 7:15 train up to see my mom, who didn't feel like celebrating this year, since we lost Dad the day after Christmas last year. I'll be up by late afternoon to be with her; the next day is her and my birthday (years ago she let her doctor schedule a Caesarian on her birthday . . . ) so we'll have a quiet dinner out somewhere -- she said no to the usual get together with friends we have when I'm up -- and I'll spend a few days with her.
Then home again, 'til M and I head off to LA for 5 days mid-month, and then back to school.
