A Sneaking Suspicion (re Star Wars)

I'm going to see The Rise of Skywalker this afternoon -- I won't check back 'til after so feel free to spoil away. Something that's been bothering me:

Do you think that they would have brought back Lando if they hadn't had a Leia-shaped hole to fill? And yes, I know they worked around existing footage of Carrie Fisher. It's just that I'm finding that I'm ridiculously excited to see Billy Dee Williams back, but I'm wondering if he was always part of the plan or if it's just a clever substitution.

I hope he was always part of the plan. I've been desperate to see Lando since the first of the new trilogy. He's been a vital part of Star Wars since Part VI, and we needed him back.

I haven't seen it yet, so no spoiler replies, please? But Lando. Smooth-talking con artists are amazing.
