Three Things
Dec. 27th, 2019 10:57 am#1. Happy birthday to me. I am 58, and expect to spend the next two years saying "I'm almost 60, you know." *sigh* Visiting mom, whose 86th birthday it also is, and having a quiet one, as we lost my dad a year ago yesterday.
#2. There is, like, no point in posting a new fic to AO3 in the middle of all the Yuletide joy, is there? I wrote a short Watchmen (TV) fic (Angela & Laurie) and I'm excited about it, but I'd kind of like it to have a prayer of getting seen. So I'll hold off 'til after the reveals and squeeing has died down.
#3. Since it's near enough to New Year's: resolutions for next year -- to get the next book written, and to do New York right (more performances, museums, wanders), which I have gotten rather out of the habit of doing.

Date: 2019-12-27 07:38 pm (UTC)I had an idea for like THREE Star Wars fics, but people are still going through YT and probably not going to get through that even, so yeah, I'm thinking after the New Year? idk.

Date: 2019-12-31 03:16 pm (UTC)Yuletide does seem to suck a lot of life out of random postings, but, depending on the fandom, it also draws some people to click on the fandom itself outside Yuletide, and see what's appeared since last they looked more than in Yuletide...?
I am currently reading your novel and enjoying it very much as a holiday treat. I finally figured out that I needed to put a book cover on it; the cover is really very nice, but I, personally, just me, kept seeing one of real two people, rather than the fictional heroine, each time I glanced at it, and it was throwing me quite ridiculously. It took me too long to figure that out. Sorry! (I will report back to you and to Amazon when I am all done.)

Date: 2019-12-31 10:04 pm (UTC)I have noticed I've been getting perhaps more random kudos than usual. I just don't want something new to sink entirely.
I'm a little confused by "seeing one of real two people" -- do you mean she reminds you of someone you know? I'll have to say, she looks so much like I'd imagined the character that I"m delighted with it. Marty gave me two mugs and a totebag with the book cover on it, and my BFF gave me a beautifully framed enlargement.

Date: 2020-01-01 07:00 pm (UTC)I meant that, for some reason, my visual imagination had coincidentally decided to "recognize" the very nice picture on the cover as variously either one of two real-life people with whom I'm familiar, instead of as the sole fictional heroine, every time I looked at it. This was confusing my experience and approach. Thus, a paper to cover the cover! This cover-cover was a double-page topographical map from a magazine that was being recycled, so: innocuous and not at all confusing. :-)
