Fannish Year End Meme
Dec. 31st, 2019 04:08 pmYour main fandom this year? Hmmm. Well, I spent equal time getting my heart broken by Jessica Jones s. 3 and Agent Carter being kind of erased by Endgame. Got the most joy from Captain Marvel. Still wrote the most fanfic for Alias Smith and Jones.
Your favorite film watched this year? On pure joy, Captain Marvel. The Deadwood movie finally happened! And Yesterday was delightful.
Your favorite book read this year?> My own? ;-) Seriously, that is not getting old. I particularly loved The Ninth Circle by Leigh Bardugo and The Blazing World by Siri Hustvedt. Also rereading Atwood's Maddaddam Trilogy, the middle book, The Year of the Flood, really stood out.
Your favorite tv show of the year? Hands down, Watchmen. It pretty much spoiled me for anything else. Honorable mention to The Good Place and to Evil, which I've been pleased to see evolving from looking kind of "eh, well, Mike Colter is pretty" to "Hmm, it's getting more complex, okayyyy."
Your best new fandom discovery of the year? I'm not sure it's a fandom discovery exactly, but I explored a lot more historical romance writers and found I was keen on Joanna Shupe, Sarah MacLean, Courtney Milan. Also, I've really been enjoying some of the David Bowie comms on Facebook, mostly as a spectator.
Your biggest fandom disappointment? Jessica Jones season 3, followed by multiple aspects of Endgame.
Your tv boyfriend of the year? I'm waiting for Wynonna Earp to return so I can show my terrible judgment by crushing on Doc Holliday some more, but seeing Timothy Olyphant back as Seth Bullock rang my chimes, and I did mention Mike Colter being pretty, yes?
Your tv girlfriend of the year? I guess Carol Danvers doesn't count, being on the big screen. Laurie Blake and Angela Abar from Watchmen, both.
Your biggest squee moment of the year? tie between Baby Yoda and a huge Watchmen spoiler. (For the former, my partner kept staring at me as I said things like "awww, he's using the Force, awwwww" and etc.)
The most missed of your old fandoms? I was never fannishly active for Deadwood when it was on -- though I've written a few fics for it since -- but the movie absolutely rekindled my love.
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to? Dunno. My plate feels pretty full. Something always comes along, though, doesn't it?

Date: 2020-01-01 06:53 pm (UTC)I'm not sure which streaming service has Watchmen, but I'm guessing it's not one of my current two (Amazon and CBS). Perhaps I can get the collection of the original comics from the library; I remember someone urging me to read them decades ago, but I didn't pick them up at that time (this person had also recommended some other things that were way out of my league then in what today we'd call triggers and squicks).
