Dear Yuletide Writer:
So I’m thrilled you’re going to write one of these wonderful fandoms for me. Since it’s the holidays, I’d prefer nothing too dark, no major character death or harm, etc. Casefic and shipfic are equally welcome, and I’m fine with anything from G to explicit. My inclinations tend towards F/M, F/F, and Gen mostly, but not exclusively, depending on the fandom.

The Alienist (TV): (Sara Howard, John Schuyler Moore, Laszlo Kriezler)

I love both seasons, and would love to see the central characters -- or as I refer to them, the Dysfunctional Gilded Age Crime Fighting Trio -- in casefic. I also love the secondary characters, especially the Isaacsons and Bitsy, but all of them.

I 'ship Sara/John in the series (not so much in the books) and was very unhappy with the ending of season 2, so I'm always happy to read more fixit fic. You can find mine on AO3, if you're curious. I’m also open to the Sara/John/Laszlo OT3, as long as the relationship is mutual between all three.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (album): (n/a)

This is one of my favorite albums by my favorite musician. When I saw it had been nominated, I thought what wonderful fanfic could be made of it. There could be a narrative that runs from "Five Years" straight through to "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" or just stuff about Ziggy's decadent and self-destructive lifestyle. And his musical glory! Or so many of the songs would make great fics on their own, if you prefer: "Moonage Daydream," "Starman," "Lady Stardust," “Suffragette City,” etc. etc. I presume that Ziggy’s sexuality echoes his creator/portrayer’s at the time of the album, so anything goes here – M/M, M/F, multiples. No really hardcore S/M, please, but otherwise, if Ziggy would do it (and he’d do an awful lot), that’s fine. Or if you just want to write gen based on a particular song, that’s great, too.

Strange Empire (TV): (Kat Loving, Isabelle Slotter, Rebecca Blithely, Caleb Mecredi)

I admit it's been awhile since I've seen the show, but when I saw someone was offering it this year, I knew it was time to rewatch! I love the focus on the female characters outside of domestic roles, which is unusual in the genre, to say the least.

I'd love to know what happens after the series ends, especially that last moment with Kat's husband turning up and then disappearing again. I ship Kat/Caleb especially, but would happily read Kat/Isabelle as well or pretty much anything about Rebecca. And I'm very much open to the characters having adventures, without shipping involved.

Vienna Blood (TV): (Max Liebermann, Oskar Rheinhardt, Amelia Lydgate, Clara Weiss)

This is so my cup of tea. I love the mystery aspect and the combination of Max's and Oskar's skillsets, so casefic would be wonderful. I also liked the way that Amelia's scientific background came into play later on, so I'd love to see that involved, too, if you’d like to add it in.

I 'ship Max/Amelia, if you're so inclined, and I don't ship Max/Oskar, which I hope isn't a problem. I appreciate Clara, for having the self-esteem to walk when her fiance clearly wants someone else (*cough* unlike Violet on The Alienist *cough*). But Max and Oskar are the only ones who must be there, in casefic, or Max and Amelia, in shipfic.

Which characters did you pick for each fandom?

For Vienna Blood, the four that were listed, which were Max, Oskar, Amelia, and Clara
For Strange Empire, the four that were listed, but you probably didn't mean that one. (Kat, Isabelle, Rebecca, and Caleb)

I've decided I'm almost definitely going to be requested to write male slash, and I'm going to have to plead with my slash-writing friends to look it over and make sure it's not awful. Hint.

Speaking of which, I actually think I could write first time Max/Oskar from the perspective we discussed, with Max as the more adventurous and open minded, and Oskar as awaking to new possibilities.

Well, slash doesn't have to be graphic and you have a firm grasp on the characters so I'm sure you could do a great job of writing that!

I was curious *g* but I also know a lot of letter readers like to see what specific characters you're asking for in each fandom so they can do their best to match to you.

You might be surprised. Most Yuletiders understand they might get Gen so give prompts for stories they'd still like to get and most who say they'd like slash if possible usually don't expect it to be explicit... but I'd be willing to look it over. :D

I do mention them all in the discussion, and the other letters I looked at don't necessarily have the characters listed, so I thought that was covered in the signups? I can add them later on, before assignments go out.

When people come looking for letters to steer towards though your character choices haven't yet been revealed and won't be until after assignments are sent out.

That's why it's nice to list them, particularly when you're a good egg. ♥
