Mar. 23rd, 2003 02:19 pmYesterday was the big anti-war protest here in NYC. I was supposed to go with some friends but our schedules didn't quite work, so I went alone. It felt really good to be in the midst of everyone; I've done various types of activist work in the past but never actually been to a demonstration.
Very annoyed with the television for choosing to report the arrests in Washington Square Park afterwards, rather than the vast number of people who showed up. Certainly it gave M. (who supports the war) ground to snark at me. *sigh* What liberal media? Police estimate: 125,000. Organizer estimate: 250,000+. So it's somewhere in the middle, no doubt.
The friends I was supposed to be with marched several hours later than me; I spoke to them and it was still going strong -- and peaceful. Went to visit M. at work after church today, noonish, and there was a contingent of bikers roaring up 6th Avenue in support of the war.
