Oct. 9th, 2013 06:40 amLook, Ichabod and Abbie (being, as Genevieve Valentine would have it in her recaps, very different heights) and random attractive architectural background! (Yeah, ok, it's a church . . . )
I am THIS CLOSE to a big announcement, but caution tells me to wait until it's official. Meanwhile, a day in my life: Yesterday I was on three campuses over the course of 13 hours, did two Writing Center hours, two classes, three and a half hours of student meetings, class prep, grading. And lots and lots of subway time getting between the three campuses. I'm letting students in one of my classes revise their papers for a new grade if they meet with me, and since it's an evening class full of adults-with-jobs, I cancelled class to make a Big Office Hour-and-a-Half, plus kept extended office hours two hours before that. The vast majority of them chose to do so.* I also had a meeting with an administrator, had to replace my ID at the new school (it had, er, melded with the plastic holder) and signed up for the library at that school. Not actually an extraordinary workday, except for the conferences, but the 13 hours over three campuses makes it pretty intense.
*These students were mostly educated in city public schools, are often adults with full time jobs and families at home, and are juggling a lot. I respect that, and them. I also, however, believe that if I let them get away with not proofreading their work, it's going to come back to haunt them in their future endeavors. I know that some of them appreciate it and some get mad at me, but it's what my conscience insists on, *because* I respect them. (Or my "conscious" as one of their most frequent errors would have it.)
Adjunct professors cannot afford to take taxis home, but since the last class ended at 9:45 at night and I was ready to drop (and since my dinner was a Twix, which didn't really kick into the food budget a whole lot), I did.

And, yes, that's a very long day. :( I do agree with you about making those students responsible for their own editing.
