Since M. and I were both off from work yesterday, and since he knew I needed some cheering up, he suggested we see a daytime showing of Matrix: Revolutions.

It was a lot more satisfying than the second one, though it didn't have anything like the impact of the first. But it was exciting, there was closure, etc. And Agent Smith makes me laugh -- in fact, M. and I were the only ones in the theater laughing at a lot of places where I cannot imagine *how* the rest of the audience wasn't tickled. Hmmm. . . . Plus as a good academic, I had to grin ear-to-ear whenever Cornel West had a line. It's like in the union rules.

Spoilers: It was dramatically right, it avoided the usual Hollywood cop-out, but still . . . they killed Trinity! Bastards! My favorite character. I almost felt like the closure between Link and Vee, and the movement towards reconciliation between Morpheus and Niobe (who was totally fab), was giving us some make-up romance for the fact that Trinity and Neo weren't going to get a happily ever after.

I was a bit alarmed by the Oracle's final line, that they might see Neo again some day. No more sequels, please. Although just because there's a cease-fire in the war between humans and machines, all those humans must still be plugged into the battery cells, etc. Still, I liked the thought that Neo sacrificed himself in his final act.

And for crying out loud! Bain was completely mimicking Smith's speech (and doing a great job), and he was bloody calling Neo "Mister Anderson" -- and yet it took like five minutes of screen time for the penny to drop. Neo, geez, *that*'s a real Ted moment!

From someone's who's only seen the first Matrix...

Trinity? ::sniff:: You're just saying that, right? It's a cruel hoax. ::sniff::

Bastards.

Well, you read the spoilers!

Neither she nor Neo makes it home; in a lot of ways it's dramatically fitting, and on one level I really felt it was the right thing to do, writingwise.

On the other, dammit! She was my favorite character!

But though I'll buy this last one on DVD when it comes out, I'm mostly gonna be rewatching the first one, so I'll just pretend it never happened. :-)
