Dec. 6th, 2003 08:38 pmI've actually been carrying around a paper journal, since most of my downtime has been snatched in various libraries of late. But I'm typing this on our lovely, lovely new computer, which arrived yesterday -- Pentium IV, 17 inch gorgeous flat screen, lots of memory. It's a beautiful beautiful thing. I was talking to a friend on the phone this afternoon while transferring a bunch of files from the laptop, and she said I sounded like I was talking about a baby or something.
Yeah, it's a sad life, but someone's gotta live it.
All this snow, much lovelier today when I have managed to avoid going out in it . . . M.'s friend Alister was supposed to have flown in today, but his flight was cancelled and he's now due in on Monday. Since it seems like Susan (oh generous giver of computers -- and did I mention the digital camera I somehow received from her?) just left, this gives us a few more days of downtime, so it's not all bad.
Now the only problem is that M. will be fighting me for computer time. He never really liked to do much on the laptop, for fear of crashing its limited memory, and suffering the in-all-probability-fatal consequences if anything happened to my Very Important Files -- dissertation, etc. Right now we're doing this rather elaborate dance of "are you done with the computer yet"? I'm in the process of moving a lot of picture files, unnecessary programs, etc. off the laptop, to speed it up and etc. But I'm going to keep everything vital updated in both places.
