School is nearly over; that is, I have a few last late papers to grade and final grades to get it, but life has gone from chaos to . . . non-chaos. Had lunch with [livejournal.com profile] linearys, which was lovely, and now have a stack of Hornblower dvds to watch over break. Meanwhile, a friend has lent M. his x-box while he's away for Christmas, so there goes my husband . . . ;-)

That Yo La Tengo rumor from a few months back was disproved, since they played the Onion's Christmas party last Tuesday night. Alas, tickets never made it on sale to the general public, and anyway, I had my faculty party, but my friend who works there says they reenacted the Onion's famous headline "37 Record Store Clerks Feared Dead in Yo La Tengo Concert Disaster" with a fake styrofoam ceiling crashing in, after which they retook the stage in angel costumes to play an amazing cover set. *sigh* I miss all the really good stuff.

Dental work part two has begun -- silly me, I thought it'd all be handled in one visit, but it looks like two or three more and I'll finally have my crown. He cut away at the tooth that was there, so it's temporarily feeling and looking a little funny -- but a step towards completion, so that works for me . . .

We're with you -- just watched the first Hornblower and am loving it a lot, but my heart belongs to Sharpe. M.'s too, but only in a very manly sort of a way . . .

:D :D What is it about blokes and Sharpe? The bf became a Sean Bean fanboy (albeit in a subtle way, or so he thinks) after watching Shapre and went on to fancy Boromir. ;)

M. totally identifies with Sharpe -- working class boy who is more noble than the nobility. But he does watch them over and over with near-disturbing frequency. ;-)

Sean Bean does seem to be one of those guys who men totally jazz on, while women do too -- unlike a lot of male stars who *really* only appeal to one gender or the other.

My crowns all have taken two appointments. It's never been one. :(

Hey, Yo La Tengo's coming to Basingstoke this winter. Amazing, eh?

Oy! But I had three or four visits this summer. There's a periodontist visit coming up next, since my gum grew part way back while I was saving up for the crown. *sigh* Right now it's all filed down for the next stage and feels weeeeird!

Last time I saw YLT, Ira said it was their final performance. Since he's got a dry sense of humor, we figured it was a joke, but since he and Georgia (married couple who are guitarist and drummer respectively) recently had a baby, we weren't sure. Just so pleased to know it's not all over! (And see them! I know they're not quite your usual, but they're fantastic . . . )

Yeah, the gum thing can be a problem, alas.

He didn't give you a temporary crown to place on top of the filed tooth? (I have become an expert at re-gluing temporaries. :)

We are thinking about YLT. Here's the press from the concert venue's website about the show.
YO LA TENGO WITH GORKYS ZYGOTIC MYNCI Wed 3 March, 7.45pm A fantastic double-bill featuring two critically acclaimed bands pushing the boundaries of intelligent pop/ rock.

New Jersey's most-beloved indie rockers Yo La Tengo centre around the husband and wife creative team of Ira Kaplan (guitar) and Georgia Hubley (drums). Since 1984, YLT has released twelve albums of adventurous guitar rock, combining lyrical wit and musical experimentation. Their most recent album Summer Sun brilliantly captures the essence of YLT, embracing their enthusiasm for improvisation and organic creativity.

Flying the flag for Welsh rock music is Gorky's Zygotic Mynci. Masters of pop craftsmanship, their latest album Sleep/Holiday encompasses guitar pop, rock 'n' roll and bluegrass with some beautiful sunny piano ballads.
Tickets £12

Sounds like a great show to me! YLT can range from folk to screaming feedback to electronica all in one show; I have never been disappointed. The other band sounds interesting too!

I now have a temporary crown. Neither I nor the periodontist can quite figure out why this wasn't done before . . .

creepy internet guy
