Logged on mostly to see how many people logged on after the RotK sweep last night to exclaim. Not many on my friendslist, though I expect when I get on again this evening that'll have changed. I never would have thought I'd get *bored* hearing LotR called out again; still, well deserved and much jubilation at our place, though I confess after Eugene Levy and ?? performed their song from A Mighty Wind in character I kinda wanted that song to win.

M. back to work today -- this past week was so delightful and made me realize how much I wish he worked in a field where he'd got evenings and weekends free like a regular person. However, he seems to be getting a fairly steady Wednesday/Thursday off schedule, which isn't too bad, really, since I don't teach on Fridays.

A birthday lunch with "the girls" Sunday, for Bo and Felicia -- since M. was off he came along and made things co-ed. :-) Hit the big ToysRUs in Times Square searching for a Boromir figure, which we failed to find, but M. got a truly good Treebeard, insisted I had to have Aragorn, and bought me a plastic lightsaber so we can have battles. He'd got one for Christmas, because he really, really wanted one. How very grown-up and sophisticated are we? ;-)

Got to see [livejournal.com profile] jennetj and her roommate -- dinner at the Brick Lane Curry house on East Sixth, which advertises itself as British-style Indian, was excellent, and had even my cranky Brit conceding it was the best Indian he's had "in the US."

Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara. Mitch and Micky. *sigh* I loved A Mighty Wind . We saw it in Philly last April because I wasn't sure when it would open here. (January 2004!!!) We both loved it and bought the soundtrack. I ordered the DVD from the US as a present for Ian. :)

Even though the song was a parody, the harmonies were so lovely -- M. and I both *awwed* when they came on in costume.

I'm not into folk as much as you are, of course, but my dad used to listen to the old school folk in the 50s-60s-70s, and the movie really reminded me of that; I really should give him the DVD for his birthday!

All I can say is that we laughed and laughed and laughed throughout the entire film.

Catherine O'Hara in a black wig! I wanted The Kiss At The End Of The Rainbow to win just so I could see Annette "Martha Kent" O'Toole and Michael McKean get up and make an acceptance speech. I am sure it would have been funny as hell.

I wouldn't get Bob a plastic lightsaber because the big meanie would play to win! (ouch!)

M. plays to win, but we invariably end up collapsing in laughter. I've told him next time he wakes up cross and cranky, I'm going to be standing over him the the saber.

What's the Annette O'Toole connection to A Mighty Wind? Did she cowrite the song?

Annette & her hubby, Michael "Perry White on Smallville*" McKean, wrote it!

*Also Lenny of Lenny & Squiggy and Nigel in Spinal Tap, and a Man in Black with a lousy home life on XFiles... fannishly speaking, he's Mr. Genre-guy.

I was surprised to find from another ex-pat Brit in US how hard it is to get a good indian meal out there. We have two great indian restaurants 2 mins walk from us. Also I live near Manchester which has a "curry mile" - literally a mile long stretch of road with all indian shops (food, jewellery, restaurants etc); I can't remember how many hundred places to eat there are. Mmmmm....

On the one hand: Indian's not as popular as Chinese here, as it is over there; it's still considered a more exotic taste.

On the other: there are a *ton* of Indian restaurants in NYC and it's one of my very favorite things to eat. My husband is simply . . . difficult. *g* He refuses to concede that *any* Indian restaurant, including our admittedly variable local, equals the takeout in the tiny village outside Cambridge where he last resided in the UK. But hey, I'm cool with heading over to the East Village to eat at Brick Lane -- it was extraordinary. Also the only restaurant on "Indian Row" (East Sixth Street) where we've ever been asked if we had a reservation.
