Oct. 31st, 2013 06:07 amJust found out the steampunk Halloween masquerade/friend's book promotion I was going to tonight ends earlier than anticipated, and I will not be able to get there before my evening classes end. Pity -- I was going to dress as a college professor from the 2010s.
However: buy friend's book. Many lovely members of the local and national steampunk community are a part of it. When I saw an advance copy, my first reaction was: hey! it's like my high school yearbook, only I might know *more* people in this one.

Possibly steampunk related fashion dilemma. Speaking of high school yearbooks, when I was young, I wanted a Gunne Sax prairie dress so badly. They spoke to my Victorian-loving soul. Never got one, we did not buy expensive things. I occasionally look at them on eBay and most of them are just too dowdy, but the sundresses are still cute, and not only steampunkable, but for everyday, too. More importantly, most of them are way too small. They're Junior sized and 70s-80s size, so even though I wear a US size 8 I'd be a 13 according to these measurements. And you rarely see a 13 listed; when they are, they tend towards 80s monstrosities.
So there's one up that's in my size, wearable, and cheap. The auction ends Sunday morning. (I'll be at church, and I'm on the rota to read, so I'll really be at church and no I am not bidding on my iPhone during service.) Someone's already bid once. I'm pricing the "buy it now" ones to see what market is. So, do I spring for a higher bid and see what happens? Or do I just let it go, figuring I've lived this long without one, I can continue . . .
